✨Sunday Special✨: Take a leap of faith with me
... Mostly on a mackerel and jam recipe. And some other things 👀
Hello! If you’re new here, please welcome to my bonus content! I am now aiming to do bonus content on Sunday mornings Mountain Time. I feel like having a schedule will be helpful to me and to you all, especially those of you who save my recipes and try them out (if you haven’t started yet, now is as good a time as any!).
I write this newsletter as a way to encourage normalcy in a world that’s being driven insane by the internet. One of my ways of feeling normal is just dicking around in my kitchen.
I also think that home-cooked food is going to be essential to our collective survival. It’s not just because I have a scary autoimmune disease that can turn my stomach into a portal to hell; I think home-cooked food creates community, and gives us a good way to take care of one another. And if you hate cooking, that’s fine too - I just hope there is someone in your life who will occasionally cook for you. Food, after all, is its own love language.
Speaking of - I’d also like to talk to you about love. Now, I know that people hate it when you start a recipe with a story, so I’m going to drop the recipe first and then get on with it, but please remember - this is also an essay about love.
Still with me?
OK, so today I’d like to introduce you to a very unusual yet very easy mackerel snack recipe that I learned recently from a good friend.
When you first read the ingredients, you might think that I’ve gone completely insane.
Please take a leap of faith with me here. Even my son, a teenager who despises most things at the moment, had to admit that it’s a bizarre but good combination of flavors.
This recipe is a bit like watching Christopher Walken dancing. Is it kind of unexpected? Yes. Is it strangely irresistible? Also yes.
If you decide to go on this journey with me, PLEASE let me know what you think. Just send me a comment. I would be so happy to hear from you.
